The last six numbers of the VIN for a Cayman R always start with a 79XXXX. A Cayman S will always start with 78XXXX and a Base Cayman with a 76XXXX. No exceptions. The lowest number for a Cayman R is 792065 and the highest number was 793486. That's a 'spread' of 1421 cars. The VIN's are in chronological order and don't believe they include European cars - but don't know for certain. The first 64 cars [or thereabout] that they make of each model are destroyed to make sure they meet/exceed the safety standards for the USA/Canada so if the Cayman R started with VIN 790065 and the highest number is 793486 then at least 3421 Cayman R's were built.
